Author Stephen Ambrose will be the keynote speaker next month at the Lewis and Clark Bicentennial Conference in Great Falls where the state's master plan for commemorating the 200th anniversary of the Corps of Discovery's famous expedition will be unveiled.
The conference, titled "The Countdown Continues - Plans, Preparations and Programs," will be Oct. 5 and 6 at the Great Falls Holiday Inn with a special reception scheduled for the new Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail Interpretive Center. Ambrose is author of the best-selling "Undaunted Courage," a history of the expedition.
"The Bicentennial is fast approaching, and this two-day conference will help us better communicate and coordinate as well as establish strategies to secure financial resources for events and projects statewide," Montana Lewis and Clark Bicentennial Commission Executive Director Clint Blackwood said.
"Communities, businesses, and other groups or individuals interested in being part of the state's commemoration of the expedition should plan on attending the conference," Lewis and Clark Commission Chairman Betty Stone of Glasgow said.
The Lewis and Clark Bicentennial Commission will begin their meeting in Great Falls at the Holiday Inn on Oct. 4 in advance of the conference, she said.
Registration fees for the conference prior to Sept. 29 are $75 and then $90 up to the date of the event. For more information and how to register, interested persons can call 406-442-4141, or log on to the commission's web site at .
